The Japanese Chin is the aristocrat of the Oriental world, adopted as the highly prized pet of royalty. Despite the breed’s name, this little toy dog, famous for its characteristic expression of astonishment, originally came from China. It is believed that the Empress of China sent dogs of this type to the Empress of Japan as a gift. The Japanese developed and perfected the breed, and in time, it was exported worldwide. Queen Victoria and later Queen Alexandra both owned Japanese Chin” from Pamela Cross Stern.

“The Japanese Chin, as the name indicates, is from the Far East, from the land of flowers and fairy tales, the land of the chrysanthemum. He is himself like a flower, a joy to the human heart and eye. As a family pet, he is quite unrivaled. One of these chief characteristics is his ability to quickly adapt to his surroundings, whether in the city or in the country.

If you have chosen a Japanese Chin then your choice has been a wise one, and you will have a true friend who will share your joys and sorrows with the understanding of a human being and a dog’s never failing love. At first sight you may be deceived because his general physical make-up seems totally unsuited to many things he is actually able to do, (e.g., set out for a country walk, tear through the house, romp with the wildest enthusiasm, even make extra-ordinarily high jumps over the hurdle) . He has an athletic capacity which is quite astonishing.” from Elisabeth Legl.
